If you own a smartphone in Pakistan, you have almost certainly received a message like this: "Congratulations! You have been selected for a part-time online job. Earn Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 8,000 daily, just 2 hours work from home." It arrives from an unknown number, sometimes claiming to be from a well-known company, and it is designed to feel exciting and urgent. Most of these messages are scams built to harvest your money, your data, or both. With youth unemployment pushing more young Pakistanis to search for flexible income, these schemes have multiplied on WhatsApp and Telegram. Here is how to spot them before they cost you anything.
The Pattern Almost Every Scam Follows
Genuine recruiters do not usually cold-message strangers on WhatsApp offering huge pay for vague work. Watch for this sequence, which is nearly identical across thousands of reported cases:
- Unsolicited contact from a number you never gave to any job portal, often with a generic profile photo or none at all.
- Vague job description — "data entry," "product review," "app rating," or "YouTube like/subscribe task" with no company name, no interview, and no formal offer letter.
- A small task with instant reward — you complete something trivial and receive a tiny payment, meant to build trust before the real trap.
- A request to deposit money — to "unlock" higher-paying tasks, join a "VIP level," or cover a "registration/training fee." This is the moment the scam becomes obvious: no legitimate employer ever asks the employee to pay them.
- Pressure and urgency — messages insist you must join "today only," or that slots are "limited," pushing you to decide before you think it through.
Red Flags to Check Immediately
- Payment before pay: Any request for an upfront fee, security deposit, or "activation charge" via JazzCash, EasyPaisa, or bank transfer is disqualifying on its own.
- Too-good pay for too-little work: Rs. 5,000+ daily for liking videos or typing captions does not reflect real market rates for unskilled remote work.
- No verifiable company: Search the company name plus "scam" or "review." If there is no official website, no LinkedIn presence, and no Google Maps location, treat it as fake.
- Group chats full of "winners": Scammers add you to large WhatsApp or Telegram groups where fake members post screenshots of huge earnings to create social proof. These accounts are often run by the same operator.
- Requests for personal or financial details early: CNIC number, bank account, or ATM PIN should never be shared with an unverified recruiter over chat.
- Links to unfamiliar apps or websites: Especially APK files sent directly (outside the Play Store), which can contain malware that reads your SMS and steals OTP codes.
A simple rule that covers almost every case: if a "job" ever asks you to pay money before you earn any, it is not a job — it is a trap designed to take your money.
How to Protect Yourself
- Never send money to join, upgrade, or "activate" any work opportunity.
- Verify the company independently — check its official website, call its listed office number, or look it up on SECP's company registry if it claims to be a registered Pakistani business.
- Use legitimate platforms for freelance or remote work, such as verified listings on Rozee.pk or established international freelancing marketplaces, where you apply to the employer rather than being messaged out of nowhere.
- Report and block suspicious numbers directly in WhatsApp, and consider filing a complaint with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for the number, or the FIA Cyber Crime Wing if you have already lost money.
- Talk to a parent, sibling, or friend before joining any scheme that involves money — a second opinion catches most of these instantly.
- Turn on two-factor authentication for your bank and mobile wallet accounts so a leaked password alone cannot drain your funds.
Earning extra income honestly is a good goal, and there are real freelance and remote opportunities available to young Pakistanis. The key is patience: real employers verify you, not the other way around, and they never ask you to pay for the privilege of working.

Yahi wo moment hai jahan aap ko rukna chahiye — koi bhi asli employer apne employee se paisay nahi manga karta.
Kuch important red flags: agar kaam ke badle pehle aap se paisay maangy jayein, agar pay itni zyada ho ke normal kaam ke hisaab se possible hi na lage, agar company ki koi official website ya verified presence na ho, aur agar aap ko aik WhatsApp ya Telegram group mein add kiya jaye jahan log apni "kamai" ke fake screenshots dikha rahy hon. Ye sab log usi scammer ke banaye huay fake accounts hotay hain jo social proof create karte hain taake aap trust karein.
Apne aap ko bachane ke liye: kabhi bhi kisi job ke naam par advance payment na karein. Company ka naam Google kar ke check karein, ya SECP ki website par verify karein agar wo registered business hone ka dawa kare. Freelance kaam ke liye Rozee.pk jaisi verified platforms use karein jahan aap khud apply karte hain, na ke koi aap ko random message kare. Suspicious number ko WhatsApp par block aur report karein, aur agar paisay already chale gaye hon to FIA Cyber Crime Wing mein complaint darj karwayein.
